A little chat with Big Scary

Posted on October 04, 2016 by Dr Denim Online Store

All of us at Dr Denim HQ are massive fans of dynamic duo, Big Scary (comprising the über talented Tom Iansek and Jo Syme), so we were super excited for the announcement of Big Scary's first Australian headline tour in 3 years to promote their new album, ‘Animal’.
On naming the album, the band have said “The extent to which we are all just animals with drives, urges and instincts was a question that particularly interested us. I find it endlessly interesting that we, as humans capable of love, kindness, creativity and incredibly complex thought are often in the same moment dealing with base drives, desires and hungers to be fed and satisfied; that we seemingly have a mind that is both a treasure and a torment.”

We grabbed a minute with drummer and backing vocalist Jo Syme before they headed out on tour.

What aspect of the tour are you most looking forward to?

Some damn sun in Brisbane and Perth - Melbourne's been messing with us.

What’s your spirit animal?

Funny you ask - recently a friend of a friend read our aura and told me I'm a baby Lynx and Tom's a Bear.

Do you live by any life philosophy?

I believe in "Everything in Moderation"... but I can't always follow it.

Who would you say are your biggest creative influences?

Tom in my band; the live music and musicians I see around my town. The amazing artists I follow on Instagram.

What was the last track you listened to?

Mac Miller - Dang!

The best track to pump to get you pumped?

Run DMC - It's Tricky

What’s been your most awkward tour experience to date?

I accidentally spilt boiling tea on my chin at 5am before we flew off on our last Aus headline so had a second-degree burnt chin the whole tour.

Blue or Black Denim?

Blue on top, black on bottom
