We love seeing our Dr. Denims in the real world! So we recently caught up with Newcastle local (and real world style crush) Tegan @teegly to see what's on her Netflix radar, how she unwinds, her current Dr. Denim faves... and more!
Name and age? (If you don’t mind us asking!) :)
Hi I’m Tegan and I’m 26 years old. (27 in November!)
Tell us where you live. What’s the best thing about your local area?
I live on the east coast, in Newcastle, NSW. It is such a great place to be for so many reasons. I reside right in amongst so many great cafes, restaurants and boutiques. It’s also only a short walk to a number of different beaches. It’s like living in the city but a bit quieter than Melbourne or Sydney.
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
awkward / nerd / ambivert
Favourite 90’s track?
Okay this was really hard. But I’m going to have to go with No Diggity by BLACKstreet.
I mean what haven’t I watched? I’m watching the latest season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones right now and then it’s straight onto new episodes of Stranger Things.
I’ve been with my partner for almost 8 years now, so while we no longer do anything extravagant, we do all our favourite activities together. Best date nights now are out to dinner some place, and then to a movie we’ve both been dying to see.
Omg I love a good vegetarian lasagne, like a really good one. Cheesy and with fries on the side.
What inspires you?
Close friends and family definitely. But also people I follow on social media. Instagram is just one big collection of inspiration. Seeing everyone doing their best and creating beautiful images really motivates me.
How do you unwind?
After a work day I love getting into my pyjamas with my slippers on. Grabbing a hot chocolate and doing something easy like reading, watching Netflix or playing my Playstation. I’m a big fan of solo activities in order to recharge after being around people all day.
What’s your favourite place in the world… and where to next?
I definitely haven’t travelled around enough yet. I visited Portland, Oregon a few years back and felt really at home there. I’m off to Europe early next year, so there will be a lot more opportunities to find my next favourite place!
What do you love about denim?
Denim is so versatile! I probably wear it almost every day in some form and it can so easily be dressed up or down. Jeans and a button up shirt can be super casual with sneakers or Birkenstocks. But throw on some heels and you’re ready to go out.
Who is your ultimate denim style icon from any era?
Jane Birkin at her peak in the 70s. She definitely knew what was up style-wise. Jane really could pull off a pair of blue jeans and a matching denim jacket like no other. Plus she has really great hair.
What are your top 5 Dr Denim picks and why?
My absolute number ones are the Noras. I literally own them in 4 colours and wear them all the time. They are super high waisted with a baggy fit around the thighs and a tapered leg. I wear these all the time and I recommend them to everyone.
I’ve just started wearing the Cadell jeans and I love these. I was wary as I’m so short and they’re meant to be more of a crop fit, but they are ankle grazers on my 5’1 frame. They’re a mid rise/wide leg and such a different look than I’m used to but I’m digging it.
I had given up on skinny jeans until I met the Moxy jeans. Super high waisted, stretchy and tight. I roll around on the floor to get into these things but then I don’t want to take them off because they’re that comfortable. A bit dressier than my typical love of mom jeans in the Nora style.
I had been foolishly still wearing overalls that were skinny jeans up until I got my hands on the Darcy Dunagrees. Which I feel like is a combo of a good pair of mom jeans with an overalls top. I wore this to work with a big roll neck sweater underneath and felt incredibly warm and snug. Bonus points for never having to do up your fly, though I tend to still check.
Number 5 is just back to my Noras again. Like I said, I have them in 4 colours. Once you find your favourite pair of jeans, just grab them in every shade!
