D: Stefan Torres, commonly known around our office as the epic digital creator who can clear the room in 2 seconds flat, signalling an early lunchtime the moment anyone sees one of your mouth-watering creations pop up on their feed. We also know you've got great taste in clothing, if we do say so ourselves. But, before we dive into the juicy questions, tell us a little bit about yourself. ASL… if you will.
S:My name is stefan torres I’m 32 from the Gold Coast. I cook and eat for a living and have no clue how I fell into this. A lot of people don’t know this but I am a father to two beautiful girls and I love spending my time with them if I’m not in front of the camera. Fashion has always been a comfort of mine and a way to express how I feel in my day to day life..
D: Who or what lit the fire for your obsession with food, and what keeps it burning?
S: It would be rude to only name one person who lit that fire and obsession with food in me . This obsession with food comes from important moments throughout my life with various people whom I shared certain meals with. Food is like a throwback memory to certain moments in my life I can only relive through my tastebuds.
D: You’ve got 24 hours in a city you’ve never been to and you can't do any research beforehand. How are you spending your time and how are you finding the best haunts? You have wifi and an unlimited budget for accommodation & one meal out, a $20 budget each for the other two meals.
S: First thing I’m doing is roaming the city for any spots that have been hit by an apocalypse. Show me where the grimiest food stalls are. Spare me the fancy eats I want to know where the locals eat.
D: Food and hedonism often go hand in hand. What’s the most decadent, over-the-top food experience you’ve ever had, and did it live up to the hype?
S: The most recent I can remember is carbone in Las Vegas one of the most prolific Italian restaurants, not only the experience was very hyped but also the food . The service was extremely overwhelming which took a lot away from the food.
D: What’s the one ingredient that, no matter how it’s served, always gets you excited to dig in?
S: As basic as this may seem potatoes.
D: If you could eat one meal with any chef (alive or dead) in one of the world’s grimiest or finest food spots, where are you going, and who’s sitting across from you?
S: I’m going to the grimiest bodega in New York City and ordering a chopped cheese and sharing it with Anthony Bourdain.
D: What is your Dr Denim go-to?
S: Any dark silhouette tees and any jeans I can wear into the ground only to cut them into shorts the next summer.
(Stefan wears Dr Denim Trooper Tees)
D: Filming in LA, writing two cookbooks. You must have some epic stories from along the way. What moment, encounter or memory pops up when you reflect on this?
S: I think it would be being in the presence of the most successful people and celebrities in the world and being reminded that my dreams are not as far as they may seem.
D: What’s for lunch today?
S: A bag of chocolate covered gummy bears.
D: THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!!
